| Announcement: When was the last time you did backup? |
| Posted: bsphoto @ Sat Sep 01, 2007 6:00 pm |
Seriously! Are your pictures safe? Are you sure?
Are your pictures on a bunch of CDs or DVDs? Are they still good? Optical media degrades over time, the disks get scratched, or are just crap. Many of the DVDs I had files burnt to a few years ago are no longer readable.
I keep three copies of my pictures on hard drives, one is kept off site. It may not be the best way, but it seems to work.
I had a student ask about fixing her computer, her copy of Windows is trashed by something, probably spyware. Since I'm just doing this as a favor, my solution was going to be a reformat and reinstall. It's easiest for me. But all of her wedding pictures are on that drive. Can't reformat it. She's buying a new drive.
When will your computer die a horrible death? Today? Tomorrow? Who knows! Be prepared, do backup.
